Lead all marketing, business development, and strategic supplier activities for one of the fastest-growing Pulp & Paper specialty chemical companies in North America!  As the Strategic Marketing Manager you will help develop the strategic plan and vision along with providing strategic and tactical leadership in areas of new product development, toll manufacturing relationships, deployment of “go to market” commercialization efforts, and recommendations for M&A targets or partnerships that improve profitability and expand market share.
  • Develop marketing strategies, integrated communication plans, and strategic supply relationships that have a direct impact on specialty chemical applications for Pulp & Paper customers throughout North America.
  • Develop market segmentation and product growth strategy, including investment opportunities, such as CAPEX, M&A, JV’s and Licensing; identify key mega trends
  • Conduct detailed market analyses to fully understand customers’ goals, objectives and business needs, and then develop differentiated products, programs, or technology to fulfill those needs.
  • Monitor market dynamics, technology trends, and competitive issues within the global Pulp & Paper industry.
  • Evaluate alternate supply channels to reduce product costs and maximize profitability.
  • Facilitate third-party or toll manufacturing agreements when needed.
  • Collaborate with Research and Sales to champion the innovation cycle and commercialization of new products and programs via the Stage-Gate process.
  • Define market potential and capture strategy for competitively held business.
  • Develop program pricing, sales promotions, training tools, and collateral material for marketing programs.
  • Closely interact and develop rapport with the Sales team to ensure customer acceptance of new products, programs, or services.
  • B.S. in a Technical discipline – Chemical Engineering, Pulp & Paper Science, Chemistry, Biology, or related field.
  • MBA highly preferred, but not required.
  • 10+ years of Marketing, Business Development, or Sales experience within the Pulp & Paper industry.
  • 3 or more years of Product Management, Product Marketing, Market Development, or Strategic Marketing experience within the Paper industry.
  • Knowledge of papermaking chemistry/chemicals such as:  flocculants, coagulants, dye fixatives, internal/surface sizing, wet/dry strength resins, starch, defoamers, biocides, fungicides, felt cleaners, deposit control, coating additives, etc.
  • Experience with various paper manufacturing processes including:  coated/uncoated fine paper, paperboard, newsprint, tissue & towel, and packaging grades
  • High degree of self-motivation with the demonstrated ability to drive multiple projects simultaneously with minimal direct supervision.
  • Creative, innovative, and having the ability to think independently.
  • Experience with financial analyses, cost comparisons, and pricing strategies.
  • Proven experience developing marketing communication programs.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to travel up to 30%.
  • Skilled with MS Office Suite.
